| Abstract: | Proposed is, that a corporate strategy perspective, with its emphasis on managerial choice, may provide a behavioural basis for understanding the capital structure of large United States firms at the firm level which is complementary to the traditional finance paradigm at the level of the economy. This conceptual development was based on a fundamental strategy perspective that functional financial decisions are made by managers operating in a complex environment, and not solely a deterministic product of external market forces as implied by the financial paradigm. |
