Abstract:International investments have become powerful vehicles for achieving corporate goals. It is becoming more apparent that strategic alliances between Japanese and US firms will have significant advantages in the future. The potential structural forms of the strategic alliances that Japanese companies may establish with prospective US partners - that is total acquisition, majority ownership, minority ownership, joint ventures, corporate investments, fund investment, venture capital investments - are analysed. The trend toward strategic alliances is clear, the motivations are compelling, the movement inexorable. Survival of medium-size companies demands intercorporate, cross-border structure.
