Abstract:The computer-integrated manufacturing is mentioned as the most significant expression of the new industrial revolution. Economic advantages are summarized. The needed investment in ideas, people, resources, capital development and business development is described. The complementary nature of military and commercial needs is emphasized. The concept of flexible computer-integrated manufacturing represents a fundamental change in strategic management both on an individual company level, and also on a state and local level. Capital costs, patent legislation, systems development, risks and incentives are taken into consideration. Joint ventures and cooperative development of these new facilities are dealt with.
