Abstract: | An extensive graphical approach is described, based on an aspect of modular decision analysis, which avoids most of the limitations of the decision-network approach. The existence of separability in a decision problem can be exploited using the value-iteration procedure of dynamic programming. A series of linked, two-dimensional state-action diagrams provides a clearer presentation of the program. Direct use of a criterion function and constraints, sensitivity and robustness analysis facilitates the determination of good strategies. The approach can be used to consider additional problem complexities. |
