Abstract: | Research in the pharmaceutical enterprise can either be driven by mechanisms which are inherent in science and technology or be motivated by extrascientific goals, such as therapeutic needs. In most companies, the two types of research exist side by side. Research driven by science and technology is a strategic instrument: it opens up new business areas and new technological options. Therefore, it should report directly to corporate management. On the other hand, research which is basically need-oriented serves mainly operational goals. It should consequently report to divisional management. Technology transfer between the two organization forms is created by people e.g. by carriers of know-hows and ideals. |
