Abstract:The paper's starting point is the following: In mergers the manageability of acquisitions significantly affects the wealth of shareholders of acquiring firms. Specifically, the authors examine the relative size of partners and the industrial relatedness of the two firms. The test results suggest that acquisitions of relatively large firms from unrelated industries lead to significant falls in the wealth of acquiring firms. This result is esoterically pronounced if the period is is extended beyond the announcement.
