Abstract:Research has suggested that goal setting and feedback have an interactive relation. The roles of outcome and process feedback on performance in producing the effects of goal setting are examined. The roles are examined using a simulating stock investment. Goal setting is expected to interact with outcome and process feedback to affect performance, quality of task-strategy, appropriateness of information search, self-confidence, and self-rated effort. Results support the hypotheses. Process feedback interacts with goal setting to strongly affect the quality of task strategies and information search. Outcome feedback interacts with goal setting to affect effort and self-confidence.
