Abstract: | Companies should look at transportation as an element of strategic planning. Most companies can revamp transportation cost control within a six-month period. After an initial concentrated effort, maximum efficiency can be maintained through a less-intensive program involving regular monitoring and periodic adjustment. The time and expense required to design and implement a comprehensive savings strategy should be paid back within the first year; transportation cost savings will then continue to make a significant contribution to profitability in future years. |
