Abstract:The article presents estimation of potential energy savings in the USA that will result if the most efficient electricity end-use technologies readily available today attain complete market saturation in the year 2000. These estimates have been developed not only through discussions with a wide range of experts but also a review of the trade and technical literature simulations with several end-use models. The residential, commercial and industrial technologies are described with their consumption and electricity-saving potential. It is concluded that the maximum technical potential /MTP/ impact of efficient technologies is at 24 p.c.- 44 p.c. of the base electricity consumption in the year 2000.
