| Abstract: | In comparison with Germany's extensive international trade relations, the direct investments made by German companies abroad appear relatively small representing only one tenth of their total investments in plant and machinery. They are, however, still considerably larger than corresponding foreign investments in Germany. If Germany wishes to increase the latter, Germany requires a government policy on personnel and wage structures which will improve Germany's position as a production location. Competing as a possible location means, in effect, competing to attract the investments of tomorrow, success in which always depends on the conditions offered to investors. |
