Abstract:The UK market for training shoes is overviewed. In this report, white shoes will be covered which are used for racquet sports /tennis, squash and badminton/, basketball, aerobics, and also those which could be described as "cross' trainers. The market is an especially complex one and is being continually segmented into more special sectors. In 1990, the market was worth GBP 230 million, almost 7 percent of total footwear expenditure. Many consumers now wear training shoes as a fashion accessory. Production of sports shoes reached 9 million pairs in 1988, falling back since. The newly industrialised countries provide the lion's share of the UK's sports shoes. Product segmentation is expanding. Big names are Adidas, Nike, Hi-Tec, etc.
