Abstract:The Canadian approach to environmental protection is unique in several respects as it is developing a new policy making framework for solving environmental problems. It attempts to shift the traditional relationship between business and government toward a collaboration involving all sectors of society. Canada's environmental policy is based on the philosophy of development, popularized by the Brundtland Report in 1987. The government also released in March 1990 a policy document for national discussion. In fall 1990 a final report would be published that is purported to establish Canada as the world leader in environmental protection. The reaction of the public is excellent, of business is mixed.
