| Abstract: | Today's powerful portable PCs are fast becoming indispensable tools. The number of portable computers sold in the USA approximated 1.6 million units in 1990. This number is expected to be 9 million by 1994, making the portable PC a commodity by the end of the decade. A list of products and suppliers of MS-DOS based portables is presented, with up to three models from any one supplier included. Improved pen-based systems are coming, and speech recognition may be just a few years away. A special report of a hot new portable that makes it debut early in the next century is presented /2001: A portable PC Odyssey/. |
