Abstract:The author states five years ago, an accountant with an email address was almost as rare as a firm with its own website. Today, you would expect the situation to be markedly different, and it is. But the gap between then and now is more of a Cheddar Gorge than a Grand Canyon. So the author states that accountants and their clients still have much to gain from greater internet awareness and increased practice automation. People may use the internet 'to transform their relationship with clients', in the same way the government is trying to use it to transform its relationship with business. The author also states that although many small firms' websites are little more than online brochures, the trend is towards providing interactive services.
