Abstract: | This paper reports on a follow-up study which explored the long-term impacts of the major forest fire disaster in the summer of 2003 in Canada on local tourism. The previous study, conducted shortly after the disaster, focused on the preparedness, responses and recovery methods of the tourism industry. In this study, 60 of the original 104 tourism businesses were interviewed again in order to find out the experiences, recovery strategies and disaster management changes from long-time perspective. The aim of this paper is to highlight the importance of crisis planning in advance and to improve tourism disaster management. |
