Abstract: | The prospects for a reasonable accommodation of trade policy and environmental policy have been a source of widespread concern and, in some quarters, alarm. Recent years have witnessed the Tuna/Dolphin disputes, the debate regarding the effects of NAFTA on environmental agreements with potentially trade-restricting provisions extraneous to GATT disciplines. Simultaneous fears emerged that trade liberalisation and the expansion of global commerce could cause environmental damage. |
