Abstract:In this article, the author presents a unique market -- that of sulfur dioxide (SO2) allowances. This market aims to reduce the national level of SO2 emissions at the lowest possible cost. The author presents and analyzes the results of this allowance program over a period of six years. As the new millennium begins, the time is appropriate for the international community to ponder the impact of the marketing system on the environment.
