Abstract:Even though the role of human resource management in foreign and international joint venture contexts has much been studied, little research has been conducted on human resource management in the context of international projects. The purpose of this article is to introduce an analytical framework for demonstrating human resource activities on all stages of an international project, and the study is based on interview data collected in Australian firms in international development projects. The results of the study reveal that many specific human resource demands are connected to international projects. Major challenges for project workers have to do with the issues of job security and career trajectory, whereas supplying firms deal with staff deployment and human resources planning related problematics.
