Abstract:Gender has been inconclusive as a factor in understanding a turnover decision. Yet, it is a decisive factor in the operation of the labor market affecting the entry/exit of labor to/from work organizations. Explanations for this situation are proposed which distinguish 'intent' from 'technical turnover' and disaggregate male and female components of the 'sex' variable. Propositions testing these relationships were examined. The results explain the inconsistent results and emphasize that gender differences are crucial to understanding a turnover decision.
