Abstract: | By Norwegian standards, the bond market has developed rather rapidly over the last decade, both in terms of value and turnover. However, it is still small. Before the market was liberalized in the mid-1980s, it was heavily regulated both in terms of borrowers and lenders. Borrowing was controlled to secure the flow of capital into business investments and into sectors favoured by the government. On the demand side, regulations forced financial institutions to hold bonds, keeping yields down. |
