Abstract:Norway's banks have made a remarkable recovery since they were bankrupt and had to be taken over by the government in 1992 and 1993. Indeed, they made such good profits last year that critics have begun to ask whether the government didn't mishandle the bail-outs. The government is making its money back in a number of ways. The banks have not merely survived but they are thriving. The damage of the past five years is still apparent, however.
