Abstract:This article examines the effect of employment-supportive policies on the childcare strategies of divorced mothers. According to crowding-in thesis, mothers search for an optimal combination between formal and informal child care. This study uses data from ECHP for 13 countries to examine the importance of macro-level indicators to the use of different forms of childcare after divorce. The results indicate that social networks play an important role in childcare arrangements. However, the availability of formal care is the main factor in explaining the childcare strategies.
