Abstract: | Former research on gender, emotion and organization is mainly stuck to traditional heterosexual way of thinking. This paper concentrates on a neglected topic: the intimacy of relationships and friendships between gay men and other gay men and heterosexual men and women in the context of workplace. The article is based on ten personal interviews with gay men working in one UK National Health Service Trust. The paper identifies some heteronormative work cultures that can complicate friendship-making processes. The author highlights that work organizations are important environments for gay men to build and develop intimacy and friendship with colleagues. |
