Abstract: | The theoretical and empirical literature on the strategic environmental behaviour of enterprises available up to now proceeds from a static viewpoint, which hardly takes intra- company ecological learning processes into consideration. Based on a literature analysis and own interviews in 15 companies, in this contribution typical ideal phases of ecologically designed enterprise strategies and ecological development processes are worked out. Thus enterprises initially behave passively towards environmental technologies and prefer additive end-of-pipe solutions. Above all, external stimuli are mainly responsible for changes in company behaviour at this stage. In later phases, self-reinforcing and learning effects can be utilised, so that companies are in a position to recognise environment- orientation as a strategic instrument. |
