Abstract: | This paper discusses the character of the Normalisation regime in Slovakia and its impact on Slovak domestic policy after the political changes of 1989. An analysis of Slovak society's adaptation to the "new reality" after the Warsaw Pact occupation of Czechoslovakia in August 1968 is offered. The article also provides a discussion of the differences between the policies of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia in the Czech lands and in Slovakia, and examines the sources of stability and legitimacy of this version of "real socialism" in the specific conditions of Slovakia. Later, the effects of Normalisation on the development of Slovakia and its influence of Slovak domestic policy after 1989 are examined and it is asked, why anti-communism in Slovakia was so weak. |
