| Abstract: | Various alternative estimates of rates of economic growth in the former Soviet Union have become widely known in the economic literature. Their appearance was a natural response to the inadequate quality and deliberate falsifications of Soviet official statistics, which aimed to overstate the rates of Soviet economic growth in order to satisfy the governing elite. For this reason the official rates indeed need recalculation. But existing Russian alternative estimates of these rates are still far from perfection. |
