| Abstract: | ING Barings' Richard Jones and Daragh Maher examine Malaysia's latest budget issued on 17 October. Malaysia's budget for 1998 was the most significant in its recent economic history, providing policy makers with an opportunity to address concerns regarding signs of excess in the economy. Instead, the budget will be remembered as an opportunity lost. The economic backdrop painted by the government is one of high growth, yet with attendant improvement in external balance, credit quality and currency performance. |
