Abstract:Many empirical studies aim to a thorough evaluation of both substantive importance and statistical significance. The neoclassical economics studies have been criticized by feminist economists because of the disproportionate focus on statistical machinery instead of substantive issues. This article considers the ongoing debate about rhetoric of economic inquiry and significance test to explore the approaches for presenting empirical results effectively. The objective is to ascertain that the analysis is accurate meaningful, and relevant for the conceptual and empirical context. A number of frequently overlooked measurement issues are discussed and guidelines, illustrated with concrete examples, for communicating two different aspects of "significance" in empirical research are provided.
