Abstract:There is enough uniqueness in technical professionals to warrant special training for the people who lead them. Technical leadership takes a special combination of: knowledge about science and technology to acquire respect; knowledge about behaviour; and skill to lead. Technical leaders must be able to understand and respond to the technical professionals' special needs. The emphasis of technical leaders is not on managing people but on managing the technical aspects of their jobs. However, well-rounded leaders are required who are responsive to the needs of technical professionals as well as to the attainment of the organization's strategic goals.
