Abstract:Managers of industrial research organizations must ensure that technological advances achieved in their laboratories materialize in the company's products and processes. There is, however, another major challenge - "how to identify sources of technology, and how to go about acquiring and implementing technology from those sources?" It is concluded that managing the knowledge asset needs to be a prime consideration. Information specialists who are creative and who have an ability to recognize new and significant technologies are needed; universities need to develop curricula to help train such specialists. Companies should plan for effective research, where technology transfer plays a key role.
