| Abstract: | Based on analysis of 63 portfolio firms, this study examines idiosyncratic pre-investment (here as: pre-inv.) process characteristics influencing the dismissal of management team members of venture capital-backed firms in the post-investment (as: post-inv.) phase. Considered are two perspectives within the literature on governance of interfirm relationships: contractual and relational governance related to positional and collaborative negotiation styles. The findings indicate that positional bargaining in the pre-inv. phase may be a reliable indicator of a greater risk of new venture team members being dismissed in the case of things getting tough in the post-inv. period. |
