| Abstract: | From welfare worker and industrial firefighter to business manager and consultant, personnel professionals have worn many different labels over the last 40 years. Alan Fowler reviews some 20 models of the personnel function, and concludes that most are complementary, not mutually exclusive. It is a marked characteristic of the personnel profession that it frequently embarks on intensive questioning of particularly its own role. |
