Abstract: | A portfolio model of capital structure us used to analyze the influence of banks of investment revisions and profitability of industrial firms. Bank monitoring takes on various forms: equity ownerships, board memberships, credit rationing, and services in convection with floating new equity. It is shown that banks ration short term credit for all firms and long-term credit for firms where banks do not have a share in the equity or where they do not have board memberships. Bank behavior is explained by applying signalling theory. |
