| Abstract: | The paper discusses the development of the production factor "management" in the theory of the firm. The paper analyses the distinction between the functional understanding of management as a production factor in theory and the personal concept of management in practice. The personal concept of management developed when the Marxist distinction between capital and labor and its conflict seemed to call for a third party in the firm that tries to solve the conflict between capital and labor. The management councils that have just been created by German law recognize the institutional role of management as the third factor in the firm. |
