Abstract:The article examines the effect of gainsharing as a specific human resource practice on employee knowledge sharing in different kind of situations of labour – management trust and co-operation. The authors have combined the employee risk sharing and organizational learning frameworks in order to understand how gainsharing programmes work. The authors propose that employees are more willing to share high-risk knowledge with their managers if the degree of trust between labour and management is high. Also the union support and involvement in gainsharing increases the knowledge sharing of employees. The hypotheses are tested with time-series data on two locations that have different levels of co-operation between labour and management. The authors conclude, that results support the hypotheses made, and they provide implications of the results for gainsharing implementation.
