Abstract: | Even though work is becoming more and more autonomous and descrete (transforming into knowledge work), managerial control refuses to disappear in organizations. This article uses labour process theory to assess this phenomenon, claiming that one should problematize control around the indeterminacy of knowledge - not labour. Managers should try to ensure that employees' cognitive efforts meet their full cognitive potential. The article argues that managerial control is necessary even in the era of knowledge work. |
