Abstract: | 'Cafeteria system' is the common name for the individualized pay systems, which Dutch employers begun to apply in the 1990's. According to the reports of employers and workers, the use, adoption and design of the 'cafeteria systems' has been very diverse. The authors have developed an analytical framework in order to analyze this diversity. The way by which the system is adopted seems to be the main explanatory factor. Coerced adoption means that the system has been implemented as a part of sectoral collective agreements. The authors argue that different drivers of adoption affect the design and employee use of 'cafeteria systems'. |
