Abstract:The rise of macro markets such as the European Single market recalibrates the relation between foreign direct investment (FDI) and national locations. Previous study has ignored the effect of macro markets both theoretically and empirically. The paper challenges conventional wisdom on the impact of national properties on FDI. It is found that neither comparatively high labour costs nor strong unions and formalized systems of employee workplace representation are negatively related to FDI.
