Abstract:Women's history in Britain, while less politicized than in North America, is in a healthy state. Conferences on the subject proliferated in 1993 and 1994. New journals such as Gender and History and Women's History Review are flourishing and there are courses in universities at both undergratuate and graduate level. Yet in the field of economic history, gender is still rarely considered. Immense strides have been made in the last 20 years in establishing women's economic importance in the past.
