Abstract:The paper states that women are making great strides in many walks of life. So it is a sad indictment of business that just 7% of all FTSE-100 board seats are held by women, and that women account for just 3% of all executive directors in the top 100 companies. According to the 2002 Female FTSE Report, recently published by the Centre for Developing Women Business Leaders at Cranfield School of Management, 88 of the UK's top 100 companies still have no women executive directors, and 39 - including BSkyB, the Daily Mail, Granada, Schroders and Reed Elsevier - have no women directors at all. The FTSE-100 index boasts only one female CEO, Marjorie Scardino at Pearson, one female chairman, Baroness Hogg at 3i, and one female joint managing director, Marie Melnyk at Morrison Supermarkets.
