Abstract:Attention is focused on the following question: can North American firms successfully send female managers to Asia or must they limit international management positions to men? Three common myths about women in international management are debunked on the basis of interview data from 52 female managers with Asian experience: that women do not want to be international managers; that companies refuse to send women overseas; that foreigners' prejudice against women renders them ineffective. The untenability of intensifying global competition and limiting the international area to one gender, is argued and recommendations for change are offered.
