| Abstract: | On the basis of interviews with female Japanese workers, the organizational and attitudinal barriers they face in respect to career mobility in Japanese corporations, are described. The career implications of their roles as wives and mothers are considered. Forces for change in the position of white-collar and managerial women are examined. Women are called to see greater opportunity as human resource personnel in Japanese firms which are challenged to maintain a committed work force in much more volatile, open, and competitive labor markets, internal as well as external. |
