Abstract:The study tries to document how married Mexican American women are redefining traditional role expectations and basic conjugal relationships. In-depth interviews were conducted with 75 Mexican American couples in Texas.The data reveal that married women have actually taken the lead in role making.There are some differences in working-class women and those in the business/professional class.The women experienced strain from the changes in their lives, and faced discrimination based on both their gender and ethnicity
