Abstract:According to research evidence, an unusually broad range of issues are strategically significant in a merger (here as: mrg). Organizational cultures (here as: o-cults.) are critical to the successful integration of staff, students and other stakeholders within a higher education (HE) institution (HEI). Based on 2 specialist HE colleges (as: clgs.) seeking to expand through mrg. to meet the revised criteria for university status in England, this study sought a better understanding of the similarities and differences btw. management styles (as: mgmt-stls.) and o-cults. of the two clgs. with an assessment of their significance for the proposed mrg. It is concluded that mgmt-stls. and initiatives needed to be mindful of the existing o-cults. and subcultures of the two clgs. Otherwise, there was a risk that the status and efficiency of the new HEI might be improved at the expense of its academic and scholarly development.
