Abstract:The Commission has found 16 European and Scandinavian procedures and distributors of steel girders guilty of operating a cartel, thereby infringing all the provisions of article 65 of the European coal and steel treaty, which out-laws price-fixing, market-sharing and the exchange of confidential information. On the total fines amounting to a record Ecu104m, the heaviest single penalty was imposed on British Steal. British Steal and German Stealmakers said they would appeal against the Commission's judgment to the European Court of Justice.
