Abstract:The article deals with the question of EU enlargement. EU expansion means that enlarged Europe will be the biggest single market in the world. At the end of the day there will be no borders, no tariffs, no obstacles to trade and investments, just one single Europe. At the same time the 10 central European economies account for only 7% of EU GDP: such economic minnows can hardly make a big aggregate impact on the single market. But they represent significant business opportunities that will benefit the EU in the longer term. The author does on saying that in the rush for enlargement we're seeing the absurd spectacle of a former communist state struggling to become socialist enough to join Europe.
