Abstract: | Several variations of a capacity model with multiple facility types, and with the flexibility for converting capacity from one facility type to another are examined. The models include costs of expansion, conversions, excess capacities and capacity shortages, and assume cost functions that are either linear or concave. Optimal solution is found by exploring properties of extreme flows in networks and employed a dynamic programming algorithm. The results are presented and extended. Intuition is provided concerning the difficulties involved in applying the models. |
