Abstract:Because of the two-way and mutually beneficial economic relationship between Hongkong and inland, inland areas have increased their investment in Hongkong while Hongkong's businessmen invest in inland. According to estimation, by the end of 1993, the mainland's accumulated direct investment in Hongkong reached USD 20 billion or so and it had established about 1500 companies there. The mainland now has become the third strong capital force, only after Taiwan and the U.K.. The Bank of China Growp in Hongkong, made up of 13 banks has become the second big bank group, after Hongkong and shanghai Banking Corp. Ltd.. It accounts for 23% of HOngkong's bank deposits at present.
