Abstract: | Hong Kong's current status as an international financial centre was established with the backing of its international trade, shipping, tourism and information centre. Hong Kong's banking industry is quite internationalised. About 500 foreign banks from over 40 countries run business in Hong Kong. So its foreign exchange market is so brisk that the volume of daily exchange dealings reaches US$ 91.0 billion ranking fifth in the world. The "Basic Law" provides legal guarantee for maintaining Hong Kong's status as an international financial centre. And the economic development and co-operation between Hong Kong and inland area also provide favourable guarantee for consolidating its status as an international financial centre. |
