Abstract:In the past 18 years, Shanghai and Hong Kong have co-operated closely according to the principal of mutual benefit and become two driving forces promoting China's economic development. Hong Kong enjoys favourable financial conditions. As one of four major banking centres in the world and the Asia-Pacific trust fund management centre, Hong Kong has foreign exchange dealing market ranking first in the world. So Shanghai's financial industry can be developed through the financial co-operation with Hong Kong and by learning the experiences from its financial industry. In the future, the co-operation between two places will expand from the mainland's coastal area to inland area as well as Northwest China. Focus will be put on the CO-development in Changjiang River valley and the central and western areas.
